So it is time for a new challenge! It is officially Spring now, the perfect time to focus on improving our health and wellbeing. The arrival of warmer weather, lighter nights and the promise of new life all around us – there is no better time to get outside and get active. To literally put a spring in your step!
The British Heart Foundation turns 60 this year and they are marking the occasion. With support from Active Suffolk, we want to encourage as many people in Suffolk to take on a ‘60’ themed challenge.
My aim is going to be completing 60 miles (100K) during the month of April, which is equates to roughly 2miles/3K per day. However if you don't want to commit to that, how about trying 60 minutes of relaxation every day, undertaking 60 minutes of gentle activity, or 60 minutes of gardening in a week? Remember it is a challenge to enjoy and improve your health, so set your own ‘60’ goal that works for you.
I have just joined a beginner's Run/Walk programme by I Can Run. In 2019 I completed a training programme with Active Suffolk called the Great East Run Outreach programme, where I built up my running from nothing to being able to do the SimplyHealth Great Run - a half marathon of 13.1 miles. Something I never thought I could ever do!
My running has taken a backseat for several months, although it has been replaced with stand-up paddle boarding, wild swimming and hiking. So I thought I would join in this programme to try and get back into running slowly to avoid injury.
There is a Team Just Giving page if anyone wants to donate. This money will be used to fund life-saving research and help those 98,000 people in Suffolk living with Heart and Circulatory diseases.
Wish me luck!
