Review: Mid-Suffolk Leisure Centre Swimming Pool

Everyone Active’s mission is to get everyone doing at least 30 minutes of exercise, five times a week. With more than 200 sites across the country, in Suffolk Everyone Active operates Mid Suffolk Leisure Centre and Stradbroke Swim and Fitness Centre on behalf of Mid Suffolk District Council. We went along to the Mid Suffolk pool for a family swim to try it out.

The Mid Suffolk Leisure Centre is in Stowmarket. It houses three swimming pools which host all manner of aquatic activities; the 25 metre, six-lane main swimming pool, the learner pool, and a toddler’s pool.

When we got there the staff were very polite and showed us where we needed to go. The changing rooms as clean and well kept, and we had enough space to get changed.

We started off in the toddler's pool as my two boys are not overly confident in the water yet. Particularly as they haven't been swimming for ages due to Covid. However after a slightly boisterous game of 'It' in the pool we were politely asked to move to the main pool! The boys were a bit nervous but we were all thankful to find out the pool has a shallow end which gradually slopes to the deep end. The kids said this was one of their favourite bits about the pool, as usually they have to cling to the side.

It meant that me, hubby and daughter could take it in turns to go off and so some lengths whilst the boys splashed. We went during a family swim session on a Sunday and other families had woggles, floats and balls to play with. We vowed next time we would definitely take some with us!

The Leisure Centre also offers award-winning swimming lessons for children and adults, plus exercise classes such as aqua aerobics.

What else is there?

As well as the pool at the Leisure Centre, there is also a newly renovated and extended gym with more than 100 stations of top-of-the-range cardio, resistance, free weights and functional equipment to suit everyone. If you like climbing, there is the Cragg Climbing Wall that’s suitable for climbers of all abilities.

As well as this you can try a range of group fitness classes to suit all tastes, as well as seven indoor bowls rinks. The Play World soft play area (children up to 12) is also a great way to entertain little ones. Everyone Active provides activities for the whole community, regardless of age, interests or ability. They will definitely sleep after a day out here! Plus a cafe where you can enjoy a variety of food and drink.

We had a fabulous time swimming and the children are already asking when we can go back!
